Modeselektor - Happy Birthday RMX (1-3)

So after yesterday's philosophical treatise on bad mood has finally been washed away in a torrent of water, aspirin and Café Crema I decided to elevate your hearts and minds with a weekend-friendly selection of music from our beloved Modeselektor.
Yes, the same bass-crazed electronica crew that opened for Radiohead on their last tour and makes music that is almost criminally danceable.
These guys helped me realize how awesome the woofers are on my new desktop speaker-set, so I recommend that you blast this stuff all day long before you go out.

The 3 ep's lined up here represent remixes of a cool album by them, made by many artists of fame and glory and listening to it enough will absolutely melt your brain and get you pumped up and ready to face the challenges of any nightclub.

Keep kids dancing

A prince amongst the castaways

Bear with me through this.
Give me some patience.
I have no idea right now where I am going to take this post, but coming home this evening I felt the strong urge to scream out all the pain and frustration that this ordinary life has beset upon me.
Reasons? Why, oh why, should you want to ask for reasons?
Have you never had the feeling that certain days smother you, that the air seems too thin to inhale..
That you were nothing but a poor paisano who is denied even the small mercy of a fruit jar filled with bad wine to help you battle the hardships of reality?
This day I felt every moment of my life bearing down upon me like a heavy brick.
I was out, at a birthday party. Merry people all around me, girls dancing, the spirits were flowing.. and yet the remorse of the pen seemingly is all the confrontation with myself that I can take right now. So I will return to my original statement:
Bear with me this evening. For I may not appeal to your senses right at this point when you are reading this, but a day will befall you when you will be in my skin, appaled at the joy of each breathing soul, unable to connect to anything in your surroundings. Disgusted. Dissociative.

Anti-Zen.

So I returned and found comfort in my music and the description of my sentiments.
It seems that there is music to cover each sentiment, and woe to the person who has discovered the tunes that speak to the deepest fibres of seclusion within his or her twisted soul. It may well be that each person finds serenity in a different piece of music. But if you find it, wherever that may be, beware of the small hours when doubt enters your mind and eats away at your conscience.
Why does the human soul have mechanisms like this?
Why are we not able to simply go with the flow, enjoy the limited ride we have earned with our precious ticket to the park called life?
Why does man have to yearn for shapeless, nameless, undefined ghosts within himself?

I am grateful for this yearning. It makes me feel alive. I hurt, so I am.
How dreadfully mundane would it be to only laugh when told a joke, to only cry when being wronged, to only react accordingly to each and every input. It is a sign of slight victory over harsh reality that sometimes the human mind rises above each material thing and defying all logic produces unpredictable results.
The tarnished mood in a seemingly perfect day could well be the seed of wonder and beauty within the obliterating gloom of other, darker times. The human mind, through these lapses of reasons, through these leaps of faith, is able to overcome the factual truth, while reaching out for what lies beyond.
We dream, so we are. I thus welcome each such nightmare as today, as it walks hand in hand with the subtle promise of light.

I wish you all a good night, may you feel as relieved as I do after writing this.

These are sungod days, my friends. Gifts we sometimes cannot appreciate when given, yet unique in how they burn their way eternally into our memories.

I respectfully raise my glass to Danny, the demon from Monterey.

Radio Update

Due to unforeseen technical diffculties owing to the acute lack of grey matter that has befallen the german telecommunication companies the starting point of the upcoming show will have to be postponed for a little while, until our leprechauns -who are working frantically just for you- will have our hamsters up and running to fire up the backup systems. Bear with us a few more minutes and don't spoil your evening by listening to The Killers or so.

Patience is a virtue and you won't need much of it until you will be able to once more enjoy one of our trademark evenings filled with vices of the alcoholic sort and good music.

Don't forget:

All About The Sun Radio UPDATE 2

The polls are now closed and the public has decided for Wednesday! So, as the banner above indicates, we will be transmitting tomorrow, 18.03.2009 at 20:00 Central Europe Time. We have a special theme planned, a tribute to Porcupine Tree. This will open the show and go for about 2 - 2,5 hours and then we'll switch to a more radio-like playlist for the rest of the night.
This is the first one of a series of tributes we have in mind for the future. The next ones will be structured in a different way, will cover a whole scene, genre or a specific musical era and probably last the whole evening. We want to be, more then anything, educational! But these ideas will follow. This is an experiment, focusing on one (really great) band and we hope you'd like it.

And a little background information...

Porcupine Tree is the main musical vehicle of Steven Wilson, an iconic figure in the scene, through the years, mainly for the multiple projects he's constantly involved in as a songwriter, instrumentalist, producer.
Porcupine Tree focused at the beginning on their psychedelic side, going later through more Progressive Rock paths and finally in the last decade incorporating many metal elements in their albums. The influences are many, we will go over them tomorrow as we listen to different periods of the band.

The time we will spend on the show seems really little to cover the enormous discography of Porcupine Tree and this is why this was labeled Part 1. Part 2 may or may not follow. We'll see. Our aim generally is to intrigue you to listen to new sounds and reveal to you the stuff that seems to make OUR lives INTERESTING, BEAUTIFUL, MISERABLE, LIGHTER AND DARKER every day... Trust us, we know...

All About The Sun Radio UPDATE

Hello to all. This is an update about some new stuff on the blog. On the right you will find the long overdue Podcast of the last show by Sr. Cartmanez. Well, part of it... We had, once again, some technical difficulties and the whole show has not been recorded. Our technical support team (who consists of hundreds of people) worked day and night for the last month to bring you ....40 minutes of Sr. Cartmanez's musical wisdom. It's better then nothing, I suppose. Could serve as a little reminder of a really nice evening. However, for those of you who listened to something you really liked, we also posted the playlist of that night. You can find it in two formats. A text-only version and (since we like beeing interactive) in the form of a Last.fm playlist. The second option means that you can listen to a part of the majority of the songs played. (Unfortunately not all of them, but that's just because Last.fm's database doesn't come near to our endless musical horizon...!). So, you can, in a way, recreate parts of that evening, see again the songs that kept you company and perhaps look for them.

The second part of this update is about OUR NEXT RADIO EVENING! On the right you will find a poll... There you can vote the day in the following week that suits you best to tune in and keep us company. So, vote and come back to see when we're going to be online again.
Greetings!

Prodigy, 03.03.2009, E-Werk, Cologne

Prodigy rocked the house on 03.03.2009 in Cologne and we were there to witness it. After five years of absence Prodigy return with a brand new album and the promotional tour. This was the first time I saw them live and I could say that they still deliver! The show was really powerful and the new album is pretty good. Prodigy will not change music like they did 20 years ago, but who cares? We can still dance our asses off...
Below, as usual, some photos and videos to get the idea.
The first one is a compilation of our own recordings. The second one is a YouTube playlist from the best (AND FULL) videos we could find.
